Iranian Foreign Minister Says ‘israel’s’ Acceptance of US-Proposed Truce Signifies Defeat Against Iran

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has stated that Israel’s independent agreement to a US-suggested ceasefire, along with Washington’s involvement in the 12-day conflict, signifies Tel Aviv’s setback in its confrontation with the Islamic Republic.

In an interview released by Tasnim News Agency on Wednesday, Araghchi commented following Israel’s agreement to a ceasefire arrangement suggested by Washington. The truce aims to stop hostilities against Iran and avert additional Iranian counterattacks on territories under Israeli occupation and U.S. military installations in the area.

The involvement of the United States in the conflict was perceived as an indication of the Zionist regime’s defeat and its incapacity to maintain the war, according to Araghchi. He asserted that there was a misguided belief that Iran would capitulate following Washington’s intervention. However, when it became evident that Iran’s response, utilizing the advanced ‘Kheybar shekan’ missiles, was far more formidable than anticipated, the opposing forces reconsidered their approach. As a result, they retreated from prolonging hostilities and suggested a ceasefire through mediation.

An Iranian official stated that the country’s acceptance of the ceasefire was motivated by a commitment to uphold moral and regional values. This move represents a shift in Iran’s foreign policy, which now emphasizes regional and Islamic principles. Meanwhile, an Israeli general reportedly remarked that it was Iran, not the Zionist regime, that dictated the timing of the ceasefire.

In response to inquiries regarding Iran’s actions should the ceasefire collapse and if Israel or the United States persist with aggression despite indications of negotiations, the senior diplomat emphasized that the Islamic Republic’s 12-day vigorous defense showcased its advanced missile capabilities and its determination to deliver an even “stronger” and “more decisive” retaliation to any forthcoming hostilities.

He emphasized that contrary to the expectations of the aggressor regime, which anticipated that initial strikes would subdue Iran swiftly, the nation demonstrated robust resistance. Instead of wilting, Iran’s firepower and resolve amplified daily. The precision of its missiles improved, and recent developments have underscored Iran’s enduring strength, he asserted.

Iran’s leadership has praised the resilience of its citizens, highlighting the exceptional unity between the government and the populace. The Iranian people have recognized the government’s earnest efforts in negotiations, approaches marked by their good intentions. However, the opposing side was accused of violating agreements. Despite this, the government remained unwavering in protecting the nation’s rights, both in diplomatic discussions and in military engagements. In a statement, President Masoud Pezeshkian announced that Iran’s armed forces have delivered a significant and historic blow to the Israeli regime, emphasizing a decisive action by the nation and its military.

Araghchi commended the Iranian populace for their sacrifices during the past 12 days, stating, “We are currently observing genuine national solidarity and extensive civilian resistance. In spite of the adversities of conflict, the hardships endured, and the loss of life, I am assured that the Iranian nation and its leadership will steadfastly uphold the integrity, sovereignty, independence, and interests of the country and its accomplishments until the very end.”

Regarding the potential impact of Israeli and American actions on Iran’s determination to pursue its nuclear agenda, particularly in uranium enrichment, the senior diplomat asserted that such aggression would only serve to bolster Iran’s resolve.

He asserted that the impact would be positive and bolster their resolve. Emphasizing the significant efforts invested in acquiring the technology, he noted the sacrifices made by scientists and the nation’s resilience in the face of sanctions and conflict imposed over the issue. Consequently, he stated, there is no willingness within Iran to relinquish the technology.

Araghchi emphasized that Iran’s nuclear program remains transparent and is being conducted under the oversight of the International Atomic Energy Agency.

In the early hours of June 13, Israel conducted a full-scale military operation on Iranian territory, targeting an array of military and nuclear facilities. The strike resulted in the deaths of numerous senior military officials, nuclear scientists, and civilian casualties.

Following a 12-day period of intense military engagement, during which Iranian forces delivered substantial setbacks to both the military and industrial infrastructure of Israel, the Israeli authorities agreed to a unilateral truce arrangement.
