Turkish State Staffers Planning Petition against Ban on Veil

A1088915State employees in Turkey launched a nationwide petition to protest against the ban on Hijab (Islamic code of dressing) in their country.

According to a report by Timeturk news website, the petition drawn up by the Syndicate of the Turkish state workers plans gather 10 million signatures from Turkish citizens against the ban.

The petition will be submitted to President Gul and Prime Minister Erdogan.

Despite its claim to be an Islamic state, the Turkish government has not lifted the ban on the Islamic Hijab in educational centers and offices.

School and university students wearing Hijab in Turkey are regarded as the largest front of the campaign against the Hijab ban in the public sector and educational places in the country.

Following the implementation of the Hijab ban after the coup of February 28, 1997 in Turkey, many of the headscarf-wearing women have faced difficulties in their social lives.
