A helicopter crash at a hospital in Muğla, Turkey, has resulted in the deaths of four individuals

In a recent incident, an H135 model ambulance helicopter operated by the Turkish Health Ministry collided during its landing attempt on the rooftop helipad of Sıtkı Koçman Training and Research Hospital, located in the Menteşe district.

According to initial reports from Turkish media, four individuals, including two pilots, a doctor, and a staff member onboard the helicopter, have tragically lost their lives.

In the morning hours, a helicopter accident took place as it attempted to land at the hospital’s heliport. The aircraft was unable to complete its descent successfully, and the cause of the failure remains under investigation.

A twin-engine Airbus Helicopters H135, previously identified as the EC135, struck the upper levels of the hospital building, subsequently breaking apart and descending into the courtyard.

Emergency medical personnel stationed at the hospital were the initial responders, delivering prompt assistance to the individuals on board.

The Ministry of Health maintains a fleet of 14 Airbus H135 ambulance helicopters strategically stationed throughout Turkey. These medical aircraft provide vital emergency services in key regions such as Ankara, Istanbul, İzmir, Van, Diyarbakır, Antalya, Trabzon, Adana, Konya, Erzurum, Samsun, Kayseri, and Malatya.

The H135, an aircraft crafted by the European company Airbus Helicopters, is a twin-engine model notable for its capability to be operated by a single pilot. This versatile helicopter can accommodate up to seven passengers and is designed to perform a variety of functions, including medical evacuations and passenger transport operations.

The helicopter is capable of attaining speeds up to 258 kilometers per hour and boasts a range of 635 kilometers. For medical operations, the crew on each flight comprises two pilots alongside two medical professionals.
