Ambassador: Western media depict gloomy picture of Zimbabwe

Harare’s Ambassador to Tehran says Iranians think that Zimbabwe is an economically unstable country with a high inflation rate and this view has been promulgated by Western media outlets.
“We do not claim that there are no economic problems or disease…but Western media exaggerate,” Ambassador Nicholas Dlamini Kitikiti said in a meeting with Reza Moqadasi, the director of the Mehr News Agency and Tehran Times newspaper.

The diplomat went on to say that European countries including Britain are trying to depict a gloomy picture of Zimbabwe with the aim of finding control over the country’s natural resources.

Dlamini Kitikiti said Zimbabwe was under sanctions for 15 years and the International Monetary Fund did not cooperate with the country and this badly affected the infrastructure.

But, he added, the inflation has been brought under control, reaching 4 to 5 percent, and the economy has stabilized and the ground is prepared for foreign investment.

The diplomat said when the U.S. dollar replaced Zimbabwean dollar the economic situation started improving.

Ambassador seeks Iranian investment

The ambassador also said now the situation is ripe for investment and called on Iranians to invest in Zimbabwe.
