Report to show Afghan war differently

An upcoming US government report on the US-led war in Afghanistan is going to show progress in the war while information from “inside sources” shows otherwise, says an expert.

“We are going to see here in December a report from the US government, and they are going to say that things are progressing [in Afghanistan]. But we are continuing to hear now only from news reports but from inside sources that things are not progressing through the military strategy,” Paul Kawika Martin, director of Peace Action, Washington, told Press TV on Thursday.

“At some point, the US is going to have to change its strategy. Otherwise, we are going to be in Afghanistan for as long as Russia was,” he noted.

There are currently more than 150,000 US-led foreign forces in Afghanistan, and they continue to receive criticism over the increasing number of civilians killed in operations.

More than 100,000 Afghans have been killed since the US-led invasion of the country in 2001.

The loss of civilian lives at the hand of foreign forces has led to a dramatic increase in anti-American sentiments in Afghanistan.

A human rights group has said civilian deaths have increased largely since operations by US-led forces started in Kandahar province in early September.
