Africa ties important to Iran: Rohani

According to IRIB, in a message to Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday, Rohani expressed hope for the expansion of constructive relations between the two countries in all fields.
On June 16, Jonathan congratulated Iran’s President-elect on his victory, hailing the successful and peaceful presidential election.
The Nigerian president voiced readiness to cooperate with Iran’s incoming administration to expand existing bilateral ties.
In response to the congratulatory message of Ethiopian President Girma Wolde-Giorgis, Rohani welcomed boosting friendly ties between Tehran and Addis Ababa.
Nearly 50.5 million Iranians, including more than 1.6 million first-time voters, were eligible to participate in the June 14 presidential election. The Interior Ministry put the voter turnout at 72.7 percent.
Rohani won 50.7 percent of the vote to secure an outright victory.
Rohani currently represents Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Khamenei in the Supreme National Security Council, and is a member of the Expediency Council and the Assembly of Experts. He is also director of the Expediency Council’s Center for Strategic Research.
