Former US Republican Congressman Rom Paul says the administration of President Barack Obama has launched “a deception campaign” by claiming that the Syrian government has used chemical weapons against the insurgents and crossed the US red lines.

Paul wrote in his weekly column in The Washington Times on Monday “The process was identical to the massive deception campaign that led us into the Iraq war.”
Referring to the reports by the UK and US intelligence agencies about Iraq’s then-ruler Saddam Hussein’s purported possession of weapons of mass destruction and setting that as an excuse for waging the war, Paul said, “That is exactly what the Obama Administration is doing with Syria: fixing the intelligence and facts around the already determined policy.”
Paul accused Obama of failing to have a consistent policy regarding the fight against terrorism, saying it is ironic that the White House plans to send weapons to the insurgents, many of whom have pledged loyalty to the al-Qaeda.
