Bombing kills 4 in Pakistan’s Peshawar
Four people have been killed and nearly 30 others wounded in a bomb attack in Pakistan’s northern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Press TV reports.

Mian Iftikhar Hussain, the provincial information minister, said on Monday a bomber along with several gunmen attacked a crowded court complex in the city of Peshawar.

Hussain added that the attackers and security forces were exchanging fire inside the complex and that the gunmen had taken hostage a group of people.

The Pakistani official also stated that the gunmen might have been trying to free jailed militants at the compound.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but Pakistani police officials often blame the pro-Taliban militant groups for deadly bombings.

Militant groups have carried out numerous attacks against Pakistani security forces and civilians over the past few years and managed to spread their influence in various regions of the country despite frequent offensives by the Pakistani army.

Thousands of people have lost their lives in bombings and other militant attacks in Pakistan since 2001, when Islamabad entered an alliance with Washington in the so-called war on terror. Thousands more have also been displaced by the wave of violence and militancy in the country.
