“Open Sanaa Airport to Yemeni People or else It Will Be Closed for All Planes”

Head of Yemen’s Supreme Revolutionary Committee, Mohammad Ali Al-Houthi demanded on Thursday that Sanaa airport be opened to Yemeni people.

As Yemen’s warring sides are holding UN-sponsored talks in Sweden, Al-Houthi warned in a tweet that if Sanaa airport is not opened to Yemeni people, then the airport will be closed for all planes.

The revolutionary official argued that Yemenis, sick people and travelers, have been going through a 15-hour journey in order to arrive in the Yemeni capital.

“If the Yemeni capital’s airport is not opened to the Yemeni people in the peace talks in Sweden, I call on the political council and government to close the airport for all planes,” Al-Houthi said in the tweet.

“Then officials from UN and other (sides) will bear the trouble of reaching Sanaa, just like Yemeni travelers and sick people whose journey to the capital takes 15 hours,” Al-Houthi tweeted.

Yemen has been since March 2015 under brutal aggression by Saudi-led Coalition, in a bid to restore control to fugitive president Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi who is Riyadh’s ally.

Tens of thousands of people have been killed and injured in the strikes launched by the coalition, with the vast majority of them are civilians.

The coalition, which includes in addition to Saudi Arabia and UAE: Bahrain, Egypt, Morocco, Jordan, Sudan and Kuwait, has been also imposing a harsh blockade against Yemenis.
