Al-Jawshan al-Kabîr 1- A Supplication of the Prophet Mohammad (pbuh)

Al-Jawshan al-Kabīr, which means ‘the strong cuirass or breastplate,’ is a supplication ascribed in a narration from Zayn al-‘Abidin, the sor: of Husayn, to his great-grandfather, the Prophet Muhammad (Peace and blessings be upon him).
The supplication consists of many divine naines and attributes, most of which are found in the Qur’an, and its recitation is reputed to be highly meritorious. In recent times, it has been made popular by Bediuzzaman Said Nursi, the author of the Risale-i Nur, a Qur’anic commentary of several volumes concerned particularly with questions of belief. Said Nursi recited the Jawslum regularly throughout his life, and as a source of reflective thought, said that in one respect, the Risale-i Nur had been born of it.
So that with its universal appeal, this matchless supplication may be made available to more people, we are publishing it here in its English translation together with the original Arabic.

1   О My God. beseech Thee through Thy Names:
O God;
Most Merciful;
All-Compassionate;
Ąll-Knowing;
Clement;
One of Might;
All-Wise;
Pre-eternally Existent;
Ever Enduring;
Most Generous—
Clory be unto Thee, Thou art zoithoul partner or fault!
There is no god but Thee! Mercy, mercy, deliver us from Hell-fire!

2   О Lird of lords!
O Ansıverer of prayer;
О Preserver of good deeds;
О Most Lofty in degree;
O Bestoiver of blessings;
O Forgiver of sins;
O Repulser of afflictions;
О Hearer of sounds;
O Gran ter of requests;
O Knower of things secret and hidden— Glory be unto Thee,
Thou art without partner or fault! There is no god but Thee! Mercy, mercy, deliver us from Hell-fire!

3  Ο Best of Pardoners; Ο Best of Helpers; О Best of Judges;
О Best of Openers;
О Best Rememberer of His friends;
О Best of Inheritors;
О Best of Praisers;
О Best of Providers;
О Most Discriminating of judges;
О One of unsurpassed beneficence— Glory be unto Thee, Thou art without partner or fault! There is no god but Thee! Mercy, mercy, deliver us from Hell-fire!

4  О One of Might and Beauty;
О Possessor of Dominion and Glory;
О Owner of Power and Perfection;
О He who is Sublime, Most High;
О He u’hose stratagems arc most powerful;
О He whose chastisement is most severe;
О He who calls to account most swiftly;
О He with whom is the best of rewards;
О He with whom is ‘the Mother of the Book’;
О He who piles up the laden clouds— Glory be unto Thee, Thou art without partner or fault! There is no god but Thee! Mercy, mercy, deliver us from Hell-fire!

5  O God!  beseech Thee through Thy Names:
Most Kind! Most Beneficent! Requiter of deeds; Oft-Forgiving! Proof;
True Sovereign;
Free of faul t and defect;
Implored of help;
Bounteous Offerer of clear evidence;
Giver of quarter—
Glory be unto Thee, Thou art without partner or fault!
There is no god but Thee! Mercy, mercy, deliver us from Hell-fire!

6  О He before whose grandeur all things are abased; О He to whose power all things yield;
О He before whose might all things are brought low;
О He to whose awesomeness all tilings defer;
О He to whose dominion all things submit;
О He at the dread of whom all things are humbled;
О He out of fear of whom the mountains are cleft;
О He at whose command the heavens are upheld;
О He through whose leave the earth is stable;
О He who assails not the people of His kingdom— Glory be unto Thee, Thou art without partner or fault! There is no god but Thee! Mercy, mercy, deliver us from Hell-fire!

7 O Forgiver of faults;
О Remover of afflictions;
О End of all hopes;
О Munificent Bestoiver;
О One abounding in gifts;
О Provider of His creatures;
O Deereer of their deaths;
О Hearer of complaints;
O Despatcher of armies;
О Freer of captives—
Glory be unto Thee, Thou art without partner or fault!
There is no god but Thee! Mercy, mercy, deliver us from Hell-fire!

8 О One worthy of all praise and laudation;
О One of glory and sublimity;
О One of pride and splendour;
О Faithful fulfiller of promises;
О One of forgiveness and good pleasure;
О Beneficent Bestower of gifts;
О Issuer of decision and decree;
Mighty, Eternal;
Munificent, Bountiful;
О Gracious Bestower of blessings—
Glory be unto Thee, Thou art without partner or fault!
There is no god but Thee! Mercy, mercy, deliver us from Hell-fire!

9  O God! beseech Thee through Thy Names:
О Preventer of harm;
О Repeller of foes;
О Creator of things beneficial;
О Hearer of all utterances;
О Raiser in degree;
О Fashioner;
Intercessor;
Gatherer together;
Encompasser;
Enlarger and extender—
Glory be unto Thee, Thou art without partner or fault!
There is no god but Thee! Mercy, mercy, deliver us from Hell-fire!

10  О Fashioner of all artefacts;
О Creator of all creatures;
О Provider of all things provided for;
О Owner of all things possessed;
O Dispeller of cares;
О Reliever of sorrows;
О Most Merciful to those needy of mercy;
O Maintainer of the abandoned;
О Veiler of faults;
О Refuge of the oppressed
