Syrian Army Intensifies Deployment in Al-Qalamoun, Regains Areas in Aleppo

The Syrian army intensified its deployment in Al-Qalamoun after it had captured the last militant stronghold of Rankous, the state agency said, adding that the army also regained control over all the residential areas in Aleppo’s town of al-Zahraa.

The Syrian armed forces confronted militants’ attempt to attack al-Amiriyeh area near Salah Eddin neighborhood in the city of Aleppo, killing scores of anti-government fighters and injuring others, a military source told the Syrian Arab News Agency.

The Syrian troops also targeted insurgents’ gatherings in Alliramoon, the Industrial city, Heritan, surrounding the Central Prison, Kwairis, al-Rashidin 4, Khan Touman, Hmimeh, al-Atareb, Andan, the old city of Aleppo, Kafr Hamra, Dahret Abed-Rabouh, al-Fardous, al-Hadadin, al-Wdaihi and Maaret al-Artiq. The army also killed scores of rebels and destroyed their cars.

The conflict in Syria started in March 2011, when sporadic pro-reform protests turned into a massive insurgency following the intervention of western and regional states.

The unrest, which took in terrorist groups from across Europe, the Middle-East and North Africa, has transpired as one of the bloodiest conflicts in recent history.

As the foreign-backed insurgency in Syria continues without an end in sight, the US government has boosted its political and military support to Takfiri extremists.

Washington has remained indifferent to warnings by Russia and other world powers about the consequences of arming militant groups.
