First Int’l Conference of Martyr Sheikh Ramadan al-Bouti kicks off

Activities of the First International Conference of Imam Muhammad Said Ramadan al-Bouti kicked off Monday at Damascus University on the second anniversary of his martyrdom.
Dr. Mohammad Said Ramadan al-Bouti, a prominent Islamic scholar, was martyred on March 21, 2013 after a suicide terrorist blew himself up at al-Iman Mosque in Damascus while the late martyr was giving a religious lesson.
Minister of Awkaf (Religious Endowments) Mohammad Abdul-Sattar al-Sayyed said the martyr was “a true proponent of the right version of Islam and a pioneer in envisioning the future of the homeland and the nation.”
He said Shaikh al-Bouti was “well versed in religious knowledge.”

Minister of Higher Education Mohammad Amer al-Mardini highlighted the deceased’s place and importance. “He left behind a prolific output of scientific and literary works,” he pointed out.
President of the Levant Scholars’ Union Mohammad Tawfik Ramadan al-Bouti said Imam al-Bouti was assassinated “because he wanted a stop to bloodshed,” pointing out that “the sedition-mongers who destroyed infrastructure, mosques and schools of religious teaching use Islam as a cover.”

Scholars and religious figures were unanimous in their speeches as regards al-Bouti’s good attributes, considering that he is “an irreparable loss.”
