Anti-war rally at Dowming Street slams UK warmongering

British anti-war campaigners have held a protest rally outside the Prime Minister’s office on Downing Street in condemnation of London’s warmongering policies especially in Syria and Mali.

The rally dubbed “Stop intervention in Syria, Western troops out of Mali, Stop the spread of war” was held on the tenth anniversary of the biggest anti-war protest ever on February 15, 2003 just ahead of the US-led invasion of Iraq that brought some one million people on the streets of the British capital.

Dozens of participants in the Friday protest condemned the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and demanded an end to London’s militaristic and interventionist policies in other countries especially the support for the French war in Mali and its stance on the Syrian crisis as well as its talk of a military option on Iran.

The protesters carried placards reading “Respect Syrian National Sovereignty”, “West out of Mali, Stop the Spread of War” and “Hands off Syria”.

Participants also said the ten-year war in Iraq, under the pretext of fighting terrorism, has led to nothing but massacre of innocent civilians and destruction of the Middle Eastern country, stressing, as the group put in a twitter post, that “Iraqis are worse off today than they were before the invasion of Iraq ten years ago”.

They also denounced the US and Britain for their warmongering emphasizing London needs to stop its military interventionism opposed by the British public but conducted in their name.
