Arab League Summit Begins in Kuwait

The Arab League Summit begins in Kuwait, where the Palestinian-Israeli negotiations issue is on top of its agenda.

Thirteen heads of Arab states and other leaders have gathered in Kuwait for the two-day Arab League summit that began on Tuesday.

The Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas arrived to Kuwait Monday evening to participate in the summit.

Spokesman for the Fatah Movement, Ahmad Assaf, said that the the Palestinian file is a central issue in the Arab League summit’s two-day agenda.

Assaf, who is participating in the summit along with a Palestinian delegation, said that there is an unprecedented support for the Palestinian people and its fair case, due to the support of the Arab foreign ministers to the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and his national and fixed positions that call for the rights of the Palestinian people.

Assaf stressed that Abbas will deliver a speech in the opening session of the summit, in which he will brief the the Arab leaders about the Palestinian reality and the Israeli continued violations that are committed against the Palestinians and their national rights, especially the issue of al-Quds (Jerusalem) that Israel aims at Judaizing. He added that Abbas will call the leaders to hold responsibility and provide the various kind of support to the Palestinian people that is affected by the Israeli expansion policy, especially reactivating the “financial safety net” approved by Baghdad Summit to support the steadfastness of the Palestinian people on its land.

Assaf revealed in his statements that Abbas will meet with a number of Arab leaders to discuss the latest developments of the Palestinian issue, and to seek solutions to bring the Arab nation out of its crises in this critical stage and to make the issue of Palestine in the core of their agenda.
