Armed police have held Britain’s Prince Andrew at gun point, ordering him to “put your hands up and get on the ground,” at Buckingham palace, two days after two men were arrested as alleged burglars at the British Queen’s home.

Details released on Saturday by an inquiry into the incident that happened on Wednesday revealed the Queen’s 53-year-old son was put at risk of being shot dead by the very officers paid to protect him and his family.

A royal insider said, the Duke of York “went out into the gardens for a walk, to relax and enjoy the sunshine.”

“When he got to a far corner away from the Palace, he was suddenly pounced upon by an officer, and another was not far behind.”

The inquiry said a recent breach of security at Buckingham palace made the Royal protection officers “jittery”.

Two days before police challenged Prince Andrew, officers arrested two men both within the compounds of the Palace.
One of them is said to have come within yards of the Queen of England’s private rooms, and was charged with burglary, trespass and criminal damage.

The attempted burglary is one of the most serious security breaches at the royal palace since 1982, when Michael Fagan climbed the walls and scaled a drainpipe to enter the Queen’s private chambers while she was still sleeping.

The security flaws at Buckingham palace come as an embarrassment to the royal family, who get an estimated £100 million a year from taxpayers to spend on personal policing and security for the Queen and her close relatives.
