Arrogant powers misuse media for illegitimate goals: Iran

Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast says arrogant powers use the media to portray their illegitimate objectives in a positive light.
“In line with their illegitimate interests, these powers unfortunately use powerful chain [media] networks to mar the image of independent countries in the public opinion and justify their measures for the people with the assistance of media,” Mehmanparast said.

He made the remarks in a meeting with the participants at the second meeting of the Press Union of the Islamic World (PUIW) and the 19th International Exhibition of Press and News Agencies in Tehran on Thursday.

He called on the independent countries’ media to cooperate and interact with each other to reflect realities and counter the media propaganda spread by arrogant powers.

The Islamic Republic is ready to bolster broad cooperation with different independent media across the world, the Iranian spokesperson pointed out.

Mehmanparast stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation within the framework of the PUIW create “an effective current to establish a new global order to defend the rights of nations.”

With 38 member states, the PUIW was established in Tehran during a meeting held at the 2011 edition of International Exhibition of Press and News Agencies.

The Press Union aims to bring closer the media of the Muslim countries against the mainstream media outlets of the West.
