Larijani slams Clinton remarks on Iran

Iran’s Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani says the US secretary of state’s remarks on the Islamic Republic show her “lack of knowledge” about the Iranian nation.

In an interview with ABC News on Sunday, Hillary Clinton expressed hope that “there will be some effort inside Iran…to take hold of the apparatus of the state,” saying that she had “grave disagreements” with the Islamic Revolution.

Larijani said on Thursday, “It is regrettable that a country’s foreign minister talks about a great nation such as Iran … without any knowledge about that country and its society.”

“The absurd and unwise remarks of American officials can not isolate the great and honorable Iranian nation,” IRNA quoted Larijani as saying.

Earlier this month, Clinton accused Iran of being “morphed in a military dictatorship.” The remarks drew strong reactions from Iranian officials.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said that “making untrue statements has become a habit for American officials.”

He explained that “such statements are mostly made in line with the electoral campaign of the upcoming US elections.”
