Bahar: Abbas does not represent the Palestinian people

Ahmed Bahar, the first deputy speaker of the Palestinian legislative council, said that de facto president Mahmoud Abbas does not represent the Palestinian people.

Bahar iterated his remarks during his meeting with a Moroccan delegation led by lawmaker Isa Amkiki, condemning the recent position voiced by Abbas against the capturing of Israeli soldiers.

Abbas boasted on Sunday in a meeting with the Israeli president on the sideline of the world economic forum that was held in Jordan about returning 96 Israeli soldiers, who lost their way into the Palestinian territories, to their units.

Bahr affirmed that according the Palestinian law, Abbas officially does not represent the Palestinian people and his latest remarks in Jordan do not reflect the culture of the occupied Palestinian people.

He said that the number of Israeli soldiers mentioned by Abbas was more than enough to extract the freedom of all Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails.

Meanwhile, Abbas’s position against the capture of Israeli soldiers received wide condemnation from the Palestinian street.

Many Palestinian citizens said that Abbas’s remarks in this regard was not surprising to them because he had showed practically his support for the Israeli occupation on the ground.

A 25-year old young man named Abdul-Karim Mohamed told the Palestinian information center (PIC) that Abbas has never felt ashamed of stating his opposition to the resistance and their attempts to capture Israeli soldiers

Another citizen named Raji Khalil described Abbas’s concessions as a snow ball rolling down a mountain.

“Unfortunately, we were not surprised by Mahmoud Abbas’s concessions because we, as citizens, have become accustomed to that and everyday there is a new concession, Khalil said.

Journalist Iman Sa’eida, in turn, said that every step made by Abbas unveils more of his cooperation with the Israeli occupation.

“This man comes up with new things that are shocking to the Palestinian people and he does not care about what he is doing because what is important to him is to satisfy the occupation,” Sa’eida told the PIC.

“For myself, I cannot allow someone like this to represent me or any Palestinian citizen. We will not accept a substitute for Palestine and will not forget our prisoners,” she added.
