ISIL handiwork of hegemonic states

Iranian Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani has questioned the sincerity of the US motivations in its recent militarily offensive against ISIL Takfiri militants in Iraq.

“How can one believe that the US is opposed to the ISIL Takfiri group? If Americans are really at odds with ISIL, then why didn’t they go into action from the outset of its emergence? Why didn’t they (Americans) attack ISIL in the whole region, particularly in Syria?” Larijani asked on Wednesday.

The senior Iranian official further said the Takfiri group is “the creature of hegemonic countries” and described as “questionable” the recent US attacks on the terrorist group in northern Iraq.

Last week, US President Barack Obama authorized the use of airstrikes to prevent the advance of ISIL Takfiri militants in Iraq’s northern Kurdish areas and to protect American personnel and interests inside the country. The decision came after Washington’s inaction regarding the massacres in Iraq and Syria.

Larijani further urged Iraqi officials to work towards completing the political process in the Arab country.

“Iraqi politicians and authorities with the guidance of senior clerics and help of people should not allow the political vacuum to linger on,” he added.

On Monday, Iraq’s new President Fouad Massoum appointed Iraq’s deputy parliament speaker Haider al-Abadi as the country’s new premier and tasked him with forming the next government within 30 days and presenting it to the parliament for approval. Abadi was nominated for the post by the Iraqi National Alliance, a coalition of Shia parties.

Referring to the US’ recent militarily intervention in Iraq, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, also said on Wednesday that the limited strikes against the ISIL terrorists’ positions in northern Iraq show that “the White House has a selective and propagandist approach” in the fight against terrorism.

The ISIL has taken several towns since it intensified its attacks in Iraq in mid-June. The Iraqi army is engaged in fierce fighting with the militants to push them out of the captured areas.
