At least one person has been killed and several others injured after a dozen rockets fired by anti-Syria militants hit neighboring Lebanon’s border town of Hermel, Press TV reports.

According to the reports, Takfiri militants fighting against the Syrian government fired 12 rockets into the northeastern Lebanese town of Hermel in Bekaa Valley on Tuesday.

There has been an upsurge in such assaults after the Syrian army managed to inflict major losses on foreign-sponsored militants in the country, gaining a series of military victories in its fight against the armed groups with the help of Lebanese resistance movement, Hezbollah.

On May 25, Hezbollah Secretary-General Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah defended the resistance movement’s decision to fight foreign-backed militants in the Syrian border town of al-Qusayr, saying the extremist groups in neighboring Syria are also a threat to all Lebanese communities.

In a similar attack, foreign-backed extremists in Syria opened fire on Iraqi border posts along the two countries’ frontier on June 9, killing at least one guard and injuring two others.

Foreign-sponsored militancy in Syria, which erupted in March 2011, has claimed the lives of many people, including large numbers of Syrian soldiers and security personnel.
