Bomb Attack Kills 6 Civilians in Turkish-Occupied City in Syria’s Aleppo

A bomb attack in a Turkish-occupied city in Syria’s northern province of Aleppo left six civilians dead and more than two dozen others wounded.

The deadly incident occurred in al-Sinaa neighborhood in Afrin city on Saturday, when an explosives-laden car went off, killing six civilians, including three children, and wounding 25 others, Syria’s official news agency SANA reported, citing civil sources.

The explosion had such magnitude that inflicted huge damage to nearby buildings, the report further said, adding that one of the wounded was also in critical condition.

Every so often, bomb attacks claim the lives of civilians in towns and cities, which are under the occupation of Turkish troops and their allied militants.

In January 2018, Ankara launched a cross-border military operation inside Syria, code-named Operation Olive Branch, with the declared aim of eliminating the Syrian Kurdish militants of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) from Afrin.

The Turkish military and militants of the so-called Free Syrian Army (FSA), which is fully backed by Ankara, entered the town center in March that year.

The Turkish government views the US-backed YPG as a terrorist organization tied to the homegrown Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which has been seeking an autonomous Kurdish region in Turkey since 1984.
