At least 35 people have been killed and dozens more wounded in a series of bombings that ripped through markets across the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.

According to security officials, the deadly incidents took place on Tuesday in four neighborhoods of Dura, Shaab, Shuala and Kamiliyah.

Over 100 people were wounded in the attacks. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the bombings.

There has been an upsurge in violence across Iraq recently, and Iraqi authorities say Qatar and Saudi Arabia have had a hand in some of the deadly incidents.

On Monday, at least 33 people were killed and dozens injured in two bomb attacks that rocked the Iraqi cities of Muqdadiyah and Baquba.

On June 30, a bomb attack targeting football players and their fans in Iraq killed twelve people and injured dozens of others in the Nahrawan neighborhood, southeast Baghdad.

The United Nations says a total of 1,045 people were killed and nearly 2,400 were injured in violent incidents across Iraq in May.

In June, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon’s Special Representative for Iraq Martin Kobler called on the Iraqi leaders to “sit together” and address the country’s problems, including car bomb attacks.

Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has said that militant groups and the remnants of the former Ba’athist regime are responsible for the latest wave of violence in Iraq.
