Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Sindh’s joint secretary Mian Taimoor and his father Mian Arbab were shot dead in port city of Karachi in the early hours of Wednesday, local media reported.

According to witnesses, unidentified men riding motorcycle and a car opened fire on Taimoor’s car from both sides in Defence phase VI.

The motive behind the shooting is still unclear. Police said that the initial finding suggests that it could be an incident of targeted killing.

Soon after getting the news, scores of PML-N workers gathered outside the hospital and staged a protest demonstration. Dozens of other workers burned tyres at Kalapul Bridge, blocking the main Korangi road.

At least 18 people were killed elsewhere in the city in firing incidents as firing incidents took place in North Karachi, Nagan Chowrangi, Orangi Town, Hasan Square and other areas.

Deputy Medical Superintendent of Sindh Government Hospital Dr. Hasan Alam and a CID Inspector were among those killed in the violence. Police said the doctor was targeted in North Karachi when his car was fired upon by armed attackers.

Four bodies were also recovered from Baldia Town and Memon Goth.
