House Speaker Nabih Berri has announced that a parliamentary session aimed at electing a new president of the republic will take place on Monday, January 9. The announcement was made at the outset of a parliamentary session held on Thursday.

Prior to the commencement of the session, Speaker Berri called upon the legislators to observe a moment of silence in honor of the martyrs.

In remarks regarding the presidential election proceedings, Berri expressed optimism, stating that the session is expected to yield productive outcomes. He further noted that a one-month timeframe has been allocated to achieve a consensus among the involved parties.

He further mentioned that he will be extending invitations to the ambassadors of various states to participate in the session.

On Thursday, Speaker Berri held a meeting with French Presidential Envoy Jean-Yves Le Drian at his office. The envoy was joined by French Ambassador Hervé Magro and media advisor Ali Hamdan.

Talks have centered on Lebanon’s political landscape, with particular attention to the presidential election and the nation’s situation in the aftermath of halted Israeli hostilities.

Furthermore, Fadlallah expressed unwavering support for the Army, acknowledging the sacrifices made by both the military and the resistance forces.

“We express our unwavering support for the Lebanese Army, which has sacrificed greatly for the country,” he stated, justifying the bloc’s decision to extend the terms of senior officers as a measure to prevent leadership gaps.

A lawmaker has urged the nation to adopt a cohesive national vision aimed at establishing a just state. The call also includes proposals to enhance the military’s capabilities through the acquisition of advanced weaponry and to address Israeli violations.

Following its military campaign in Lebanon that did not meet its objectives, Israel agreed to a ceasefire proposal put forward by the United States and France. The Lebanese Health Ministry reported that the conflict, which concluded on November 27, resulted in the deaths of 3,961 individuals due to the hostilities.
