Black teenager shot dead by white man in Florida

An African American teenager has been shot and killed by a white man following an argument over loud music in the US state of Florida.

On Tuesday, officials said that 45-year-old businessman Michael Dunn shot and killed 17-year-old Jordan Davis on Friday in Jacksonville, Florida.

Davis was listening to music in his vehicle when Dunn approached him. The man asked the teenager to lower the sound of his stereo system. A verbal argument ensued which ended with Dunn pulling out a gun and shooting Davis.

“Jordan and Dunn exchanged words, and Dunn pulled a gun and shot eight or nine times, striking Jordan twice. No one else was hurt,” said Sheriff’s Department Lieutenant Rob Schoonover.

The man immediately left the crime scene but was chased down by police officers using CCTV footage.

An investigation into the incident is currently underway.

In February, another Black teenager, Trayvon Martin, was killed by a neighborhood watch coordinator in Sanford, Florida.

After the incident, there was a huge public outcry against racial profiling and racist killings in the United States.

In an interview with Press TV on April 16, Malcolm X’s grandson, El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz, said that African Americans are murdered with impunity in the US because the system is unjust.

Commenting on the murder of Trayvon Martin, who was just 17 years old, Shabazz said, “There are hundreds of Black Americans who are being murdered in the United States every year with impunity. And police officers serve no time. They always get off.”

This happens because there is institutionalized racism in the United States, he added.
