Iran’s Foreign Ministry rejects possibility of war in Mideast, Persian Gulf

Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast says the possibilities of a war in the Persian Gulf and the Middle East are faint.

There is a faint possibility that a war will be waged in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf, said Mehmanparast in a Thursday meeting with university students and professors in Belgrade, Serbia.

The Iranian official identified the foreign military presence in the region as the main source of tensions and insecurity, noting that such a possibility could disappear once all foreign forces leave the area.

“The presence of foreign forces in the Middle East is the root cause of regional insecurity. They should leave our region,” he added, ISNA reported.

The Iranian spokesperson pointed to the West’s discriminatory stance and attitude to developments in the Middle East following the wave of Islamic Awakening and said, “The West’s interests in the Middle East region have been jeopardized.”

“The West seeks to cause conflict in the region and instability among regional countries, but the Islamic Republic of Iran is interested in stability and security of the Persian Gulf and the Middle East,” Mehmanparast pointed out.
