Commander: All-Out Defense against Ground Incursion Theme of IRGC Drills

A1123939The recent wargames conducted by the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) in Iran’s Southeastern province of Kerman were aimed at exercising all-out defense against possible ground incursions, a senior Iranian military commander said on Wednesday.

Last week, the IRGC conducted three days of wargames, codenamed Payambar-e Azam 8 (The Great Prophet 8). The massive wargames were staged in Iran’s Southern and Southeastern regions of Kerman, Zarand, Shaabjareh, Siriz, Toghroljerd, Yazdanabad and Sang.

Speaking to FNA about the specifications of the wargames on Wednesday, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces for Operational Affairs Brigadier General Mostafa Salami said, “These wargames were among the heaviest drills carried out in an orderly, precise and effective way.”

He said that wargames are aimed at maintaining the Armed Forces’ capability of confronting enemies in times of threat, adding that the IRGC’s recent drills were based on a possible enemy scenario to wage a ground incursion into some parts of Iran.

Earlier, Lieutenant Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Brigadier General Hossein Salami said that the IRGC Ground Force demonstrated just part of its capabilities during the recent military drills in the Southeastern province of Kerman.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the drills, Gen. Salami said at the time that the exercising concentrated, uninterrupted and precise firepower was among the main features of the wargames.

“What has been done in the wargames was (a demonstration of) the IRGC’s capabilities in a small scale,” Salami noted, adding that the drills simulated actual battlefield conditions.
