Iraqi forces liberate strategic district near Syrian border

Minutes ago, the Iraqi Armed Forces announced the full liberation of the Anah District in the Al-Anbar Governorate, following a short battle with the so-called Islamic State (ISIL) terror organization.

Led by elements of the army, the Iraqi Armed Forces liberated several areas within Anah over the course of 24 hours, putting them in position to seize the district this afternoon.

With the Anah District liberated, the Iraqi Armed Forces can now turn their attention to the strategic border-city of Al-Qa’im, which is located near Syria’s Deir Ezzor Governorate.

Al-Qa’im is the Islamic State’s last border-crossing from Syria to Iraq and their main supply hub in the Al-Anbar Governorate.
