Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani has congratulated the Iranian freestyle wrestling team on their winning the championship title at the 2014 Freestyle Wrestling World Cup in the United States.

In a congratulatory message to the wresting squad as well as the Iranian nation and the sports community on Monday, President Rouhani expressed gratitude to the country’s freestyle wrestlers along with coaches and technical staff for their hard work which led them to be crowned the champs at the international event.

“I congratulate the wrestlers, their respectful families, the country’s sports community and the noble Iranian nation on this glorious success, and pray to God Almighty for more victories and the glory for all champions and athletes,” said the Iranian president.

Meanwhile, Iranian Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani also congratulated the Iranian nation and freestyle wrestlers on the team’s success, saying “The championship title was achieved at the competitions while all major countries were present.”

On Sunday evening, Iran’s national freestyle wrestling team were crowned the world’s champions for the third consecutive year following impressive performances and emphatic victories at the 2014 Freestyle Wrestling World Cup, which was held in Inglewood, California, on March 15-16.

The Iranian outfit finished top of the chart after it beat the Russian team 4-2 in the final bouts. Iran had mightily overwhelmed Armenia 8-0, Turkey 7-1, the United States 5-3 and India 8-0 earlier in its march to the final competitions.

The Iranian team was the top-ranked squad at the end of the 2013 Freestyle Wrestling World Cup staged at the 12,000-seat hall of the Azadi Sports Complex in west Tehran on February 21-22. Russia landed in the second place, while the United States stood third.
