Iran: Justice prerequisite for security

Iran’s Secretary of Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili says security will not be established globally unless justice forms the basis for international relations.

Iran believes that the primary means to combat insecurity would be to establish justice in world affairs, said Jalili at a security conference in the Russian city of Yekaterinburg Thursday, IRNA reported.

The current world order and mechanisms as well as powers like the US and NATO are incompetent in providing global security, he added.

Global security would not be established as long as justice is not considered as the basis in international relations and certain powers continue to run global security relations in favor of a few people, he added.

Jalili said that 60 years had passed since the establishment of the UN Security Council but insecurity still persisted across the globe in the forms of food scarcity, poverty and terrorism.

He said that the occupation of Iraq without a UN authorization, the massacre of thousands of defenseless people in Afghanistan and nuclear weapons of certain countries were among instances of global insecurity.

He said that insecurity would not be eradicated unless the root causes of it were identified and tackled.

Jalili arrived in the Russia capital of Moscow on Monday to attend the second international meeting of secretaries of national security councils.

The two-day meeting is attended by representatives from 65 countries.

Participants in the meeting will discuss food security and campaign against extremism and anti-religion tendencies.
