DEEP INSIGHT: Erdogan government’s mastery era; dire economic situation in Turkey becomes unbearable

Cost of living and inflation in Turkey continue to increase without slowing down.

According to the inflation figures announced by the government today, as of July, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 9.49% monthly and 47.83% annually. Considering this figure with an annual inflation rate of 5.3%, announced by the European Union Statistics Office (Eurostat) in June, is important in terms of understanding the seriousness of the situation in Turkey.

Turkish people are faced with approximately twice the annual inflation rate of Eurozone countries. Contrary to the government’s pre-election promises, inflation, which has become a more complex problem with each passing day, has reduced the purchasing power of the people to very low levels. With the price increases that can be called hyperinflation after the elections it left behind 3 months ago, the country continues to fall behind rapidly in the world misery index.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) announced in July that the Global Food Price Index was at its lowest level in the last 25 years and that food prices had increased only once in the last 15 months. However, food prices in Turkey have been increasing continuously for 34 months. Gasoline and diesel prices, which were at the level of 20 Turkish Liras during the general elections held on May 24, are at the levels of 38 Turkish Liras as of today. Fuel prices, which directly affect product prices, have increased nearly 100% in less than 3 months.

The people are confused about what to do in the face of hunger and misery. So much so that the number of people who collect bread and leftovers from the garbage is increasing day by day. While the poor are getting poorer, the wealthy add wealth to their wealth.

This highlights the fact that the Erdogan government’s mastery era is unrivaled in impoverishing and enslaving people. Because, after the elections that took place a short time ago, while people were waiting for their economic welfare to increase, they were shocked by the rain of price hikes and the currency crisis.

Even the Syrian immigrants living in the country are looking for a way back to their country, stating that the economic situation is better even in their devastated country after the war.
