The former state-run BBC host, Jimmy Savile, who sexually abused minors for decades, is under investigation for a series of unsolved crimes including murder.

British police have disclosed that Savile’s DNA was examined against samples taken from a string of unsolved murder and rape cases.

However, his profile has not matched any profiles from unsolved cases.

This comes as Savile was in the past quizzed by Yorkshire Ripper detectives about the murder of Irene Richardson. Police had discovered Richardson’s body near Savile’s apartment in Leeds in 1977.

The child abuser was also associated with a murderer called Peter Sutcliffe whom he visited in jail.

“We are relieved to hear that the DNA does not match any of the historic crimes. We have tried to be as helpful as possible,” said a spokesman for the Savile family.

Savile himself died in 2011, and a year later, it was emerged that the BBC host sexually abused and raped over 400 victims.

Veteran DJ Tony Blackburn said it is a “tragedy and a sin” that Savile is not alive to pay for his crimes.

Blackburn, 71, who worked at Radio One with Savile, said: “He was an oddball. I didn’t like him as a person.”
