Clinton: My Iraq war vote was ‘mistake’

Former US secretary of state Hillary Clinton believes that the current “dangerous situation” in Iraq is the result of her “mistake” as a senator in voting to authorize the war against the country.

“What we now see is a different and very dangerous situation,” she told reporters on Tuesday.

The Democratic presidential candidate made the comments when asked if the world is better off without former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein in power.

“I’ve made it very clear that I made a mistake, plain and simple, and I have written about it in my book. I’ve talked about it in the past,” she said.

However, the ex-first lady explained that her country would support the Iraqi government to fight the ISIL terrorist group.

“The United States is doing what it can, but ultimately this has to be a struggle that the Iraqi government and the Iraqi people are determined to win for themselves and we can provide support, but they’re going to have to do it,” she said.

The Iraq war is highlighted after Republican presidential hopeful Jeb Bush said that he would have invaded the country in 2003 if he was the president of the United States.

In an interview with Fox News last week, the former Florida governor admitted that he would have repeated the mistake of his brother, George W. Bush.

In 2003, Bush ordered the US-led invasion of Iraq under the pretext of finding weapons of mass destruction allegedly stockpiled by Saddam Hussein. That later proved to be false.

It was revealed that not only Saddam Hussein was not in possession of WMDs but also that United States and Britain leaders knew about the non-existence of such weapons.
