Fighting continued on Wednesday between the Libyan National Army and Benghazi Islamist militants in the Hawary area of city.

Heavy clashes broke out in the city last week between Libyan army forces led by General Khalifa Hifter, and the forces of the Shura Council of Benghazi Revolutionaries, including Ansar al-Sharia, who are said to be a Libyan affiliate of al-Qaida.

The Shura Council of Benghazi Revolutionaries is an umbrella group for the city’s hard-line militias, according to AP report.

Libya slid into chaos following the 2011 uprising that toppled Moammar Gadhafi and has been split between rival governments since 2014.

Islamic State in Libya (ISIS , ISIL , IS and Daesh) terrorist gained a foothold in country amid the power struggle and security vacuum. They have taken over the central city of Sirte and carried out deadly attacks across the country.
