EC supports the Palestinian unity government

The European Commission chief has called for support for the newly-formed Palestinian unity government.

According to IRIB, Jose Manuel Barroso made the remark at a conference in Occupied Palestinian Territories. He said the Palestinian reconciliation is in the interest of a future peace deal, and a legitimate government.

He added that any Palestinian government should avoid violence and be committed to a two-state solution. The president of the European Commission also called on the Zionists and the Palestinians to find the political courage for peace.

He said peace is necessary in the region, and that a state for the Palestinians is imperative for the international community.

Last week, the two main Palestinian factions, Fatah and Hamas finally unveiled a unity government to end their seven-year rift.
