Egyptian security forces have arrested the Cairo bureau chief for Iran’s al-Alam Arabic-language news channel after storming his house.

Egyptian forces arrested Ahmad al-Sioufi on Thursday morning and took him to an unknown location. They refused to provide any explanation for their acts.

On July 20, Egyptian police forces raided al-Alam office in the capital Cairo and confiscated the equipment. They also arrested Sioufi.

Al-Alam applied for a license in April, and Egyptian authorities finally agreed to grant it the permit after rebuffing Al-Alam’s request on numerous occasions.

Egypt’s military-led authorities have shut down several stations, including one operated by the Muslim Brotherhood, after former President Mohamed Morsi was toppled by the army on July 3.

Muslim Brotherhood-owned Egypt 25 was forced off the air and its managers were arrested shortly after General Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, Egypt’s army chief, announced that Morsi was no longer in office.

The authorities also shut down two other stations, al-Hafiz and al-Nas, after Morsi was overthrown.
