Egyptian protesters, police clash in Cairo for fourth day

ostovar20130127111638640Clashes continue for the fourth consecutive day between Egyptian protesters and the police forces in the Egyptian capital, Cairo.

The Egyptian security forces fired tear gas at protesters to disperse the angry crowd, who started anti-government demonstrations on Thursday.

Many Egyptian cities, including Alexandria, Suez and Port Said were also the scene of clashes over the past days, in which at least 41 people lost their lives.

The protesters called for a new constitution and demanded the incumbent President Mohamed Morsi live up to his promises.

The workers also demanded pay rise, official contracts, and better working conditions.

At least 32 people lost their lives in Port Said on Saturday alone during protests and riots provoked by a court verdict that sentenced 21 people to death for a deadly stadium event last year.

On Friday, the protesters set fire to the Muslim Brotherhood’s headquarters in the northeastern city of Ismailia as Egyptians staged nationwide rallies against the president on the second anniversary of the revolution that toppled longtime dictator Hosni Mubarak in 2011.

Security forces also clashed with stone-throwing protesters near government offices and the state television building in Cairo the same day.
