Syria hacker group strikes Ha’aretz
A Syrian hacker group, known as the “Syrian Electronic Army,” has managed to infiltrate into the Israeli newspaper Haaretz’s email server, a report says.

The hacker group broke into 80 email accounts and passwords of Haaretz employees on Friday through impersonating publisher Amos Schocken in an email.

The Syrian Electronic Army also broke into an Israeli organization and published names, emails, and passwords of some of its employees.

The cyber attack, which was carried out through phishing also released the telephone numbers of the organization’s officials.

The Syrian Electric Army hacker group was established in 2011 and has been active for various intentions recently. The group reportedly backs the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Despite Assad’s praise and support for the group in a televised speech in June 2011, the group says it is independent.

Syrian Computer Society is believed to be another hacker group that was set up by Assad’s brother. The group was previously headed by President Assad.

The Syrian Computer Society became known after hacking the tweeter account of Reuters News Agency.

The second hacker group is said to have been trying to infiltrate into Syrian opposition groups’ websites.
