Amid a recent escalation of rhetoric between President Mohamed Morsi and the military, Egyptian political party Muslim Brotherhood says the people of Egypt will not be calm in the face of a “military rebellion.”

According to Press TV, the deputy leader of the Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice Party, Essam el-Erian, said on Wednesday, that ‘anyone betting that the Egyptian people would accept a military revolt will lose.’
The remarks come hours after Head of Egypt’s Supreme Council of the Armed forces (SCAF) General Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said that the army would “do anything to protect the people from any terrorist, radical, or fool.”
The comments by Sisi were themselves interpreted as an indirect response to Morsi, who has defied an ultimatum by the Egyptian military.
On Monday, the Egyptian army gave Morsi a 48-hour ultimatum to reach a power-sharing compromise with the opposition, adding that if there was no action by the deadline, the armed forces would intervene with a “road map” of their own.
Morsi defied the ultimatum in his personal Twitter account, asking the military to cancel the call. He said that he has gained power in a democratic election.
Meanwhile, the ultra-conservative al-Gamma al-Islamiya group has called on Morsi to hold early elections.
A number of Egyptian officials, including Presidential spokesmen Ehab Fahmy and Omar Amer, cabinet spokesman Alaa al-Hadidi, Foreign Minister Kamel Amr and the ministers of tourism, environment, communication and legal affairs, have resigned amid the chaos.
At least 47 people have been killed and hundreds of others injured in the clashes between the supporters and opponents of Morsi over the past week.
