Syrian Democratic Forces advance south towards Deir Ezzor border

Shadadi

On Sunday, the U.S. backed “Syrian Democratic Forces” have advanced deep into the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham’s (ISIS) heartland near the Deir Ezzor Governorate’s border, capturing several sites in Al-Shadadi’s southern countryside.

According to Kurdish social media activists in the Al-Hasakah Governorate, the Syrian Democratic Forces captured the villages of Al-Sultanah and Al-Taaher after a violent battle with ISIS in southern Al-Shadadi. In addition to capturing Al-Sultanah and Al-Taaher, the Syrian Democratic Forces also imposed full control over 10 farms in the Al-Shadadi area of the Al-Hasakah Governorate, killing several ISIS members in the process.

With their recent gains in the Al-Hasakah Governorate, the Syrian Democratic Forces are quickly approaching the Deir Ezzor Governorate’s northern countryside, where ISIS has been relatively unchallenged for 3 years. The city of Al-Shadadi is approximately 88 km north of Deir Ezzor City and 100 km north of Al-Mayadeen in the Deir Ezzor Governorate’s southern countryside.
