Eutelsat steps up illegal campaign against Iran media

movahedian20130613140756337Europe’s leading satellite operator Eutelsat has stepped up its illegal campaign against Iranian media outlets.

The French-based company has warned several international satellite providers against cooperating with Iranian channels, most notably the 24-hour English-language news channel Press TV.

Eutelsat’s Israeli-French CEO, Michel de Rosen, has written letters to satellite companies, reminding them of anti-Iran sanctions by the US and the European Union.

Press TV has obtained some of those letters in which Eutelsat has warned satellite companies that “broadcasting Iranian channels is a breach of American law.”

The company has also tried to tie the EU’s anti-Iran embargo to media sanctions. This is while the EU foreign policy chief’s spokesperson, Michael Mann, has told Press TV that sanctions do not apply to Iranian media.

The West claims to be the main defender of free speech in the world, but has tried its best to silence Press TV’s alternative voice by shutting down its broadcasting in several countries.
