Expert-level talks between representatives from Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany have ended in the Austrian capital, Vienna.

The intense four-day discussions, which began on Monday, were aimed at devising mechanisms to implement the interim deal sealed between Tehran and the six world powers in the Swiss city of Geneva on November 24.

The negotiations were held at the Vienna headquarters of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The spokesman for EU foreign policy chief Catherine said Friday that the negotiations would resume after each side holds consultations with its capital.

“After four days of lengthy and detailed talks, reflecting the complexity of the technical issues discussed, it became clear that further work is needed,” Michael Mann said.

“There will now be consultations in capitals, in the expectation that technical talks will continue soon,” he added.

On November 24, Iran and the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council – Russia, China, France, Britain and the US – plus Germany sealed an interim deal in the Swiss city of Geneva to lay the groundwork for the full resolution of the dispute between the West and Iran over the Islamic Republic’s nuclear energy program.

In exchange for Iran agreeing to limit certain aspects of its nuclear activities, the six countries undertook to lift some of the existing sanctions against the Islamic Republic.

Meanwhile, Iran also held talks with experts from the IAEA in Vienna on Wednesday to further discuss the recent agreement between Tehran and the UN body over the Islamic Republic’s nuclear energy program.

Both sides described their discussions as “productive.” They are to meet again in the Iranian capital on January 21.
