Fierce clashes continue between army, militants in Syrian cities

Violent clashes continue between Syrian army forces and foreign-sponsored militants in the capital, Damascus, and the western city of Homs.
According to reports, Syrian army deployed its troops to the Jober neighborhood near Abbasid Square in Damascus on Monday.
Meanwhile, a mortar rocket targeted a police station in the central neighborhood of Arnous in the Syrian capital. However, no casualties were reported.
A commander of the al-Qaeda-linked group al-Nusra Front was reportedly killed in clashes with army forces in Homs.
The Syrian forces also killed and wounded a number of militants during clashes in the northwestern port city of Latakia.
Earlier in the day, Syrian soldiers engaged militants in the northwestern city of Aleppo, killing scores of them during mop-up operations.
Many people, including large numbers of security personnel, have been killed in the violence that erupted in Syria nearly two years ago.
Damascus says certain Western states, especially the United States, and their regional allies are fueling the deadly unrest.
