‘Fire kills 15 pilgrims in Medina’

At least 15 pilgrims have died and 130 others injured in a fire at a hotel in the holy city of Medina in Saudi Arabia.

On Friday, Saudi state media reported that 700 pilgrims were staying at the hotel in the western city without identifying the victims.

An earlier death toll said 12 people had been killed in the blaze.

Meanwhile, Egypt’s television stations said the country’s nationals were among those dead.

Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesman Badr Abdelatty said the country was “still trying to confirm the numbers” of Egyptians killed in the fire.

The fire was brought under control a few hours later, and the survivors were moved to other hotels in the city.

Authorities have launched a probe to determine the cause of the fire.
