FM Araghchi Arrives in Moscow for ‘Crucial Meeting’ with Putin

Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, who touched down in Moscow for significant diplomatic discussions on Monday, announced his plans for a pivotal meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The discussions will focus on coordinated strategies to address emerging threats and shared challenges.
The meeting follows a recent action by the United States, which conducted a sudden attack on Iranian territory, specifically targeting three nuclear sites described as peaceful by Iranian authorities.
The United States launched aggressive actions following over a week of Israeli assaults, which started the previous Friday with targeted killings of senior military leaders, scientists, and civilians. This prompted Iran to initiate a significant retaliatory response.
Upon his arrival in Moscow, Araghchi underscored the importance of the visit while addressing reporters.
He emphasized the necessity for Iran and Russia to undertake closer, more precise, and more serious consultations, highlighting the current exceptional circumstances in the region.
In recent discussions with Moscow, the Iranian top diplomat emphasized the increased urgency and depth surrounding current events. The talks included interactions with Putin, who reiterated Russia’s support for Iran’s entitlement to pursue peaceful nuclear energy, particularly in the face of threats from the United States, according to reports from Press TV.

Earlier on Sunday, during a press conference in Istanbul, Araghchi announced his intention to engage in “serious consultations” with Putin during his upcoming visit to Moscow. This development comes amid rising regional tensions exacerbated by Israeli and American actions against Iran.
In a statement made in Istanbul, he announced plans to visit Moscow later today for a meeting with President Putin. He emphasized the strong ties between Russia and Iran, highlighting their status as friendly nations engaged in strategic partnerships. He also noted the ongoing close consultations and coordination of positions between the two countries.
A key figure in the nuclear negotiations has highlighted Russia’s significant role, stating that Tehran continuously updates Moscow on the latest diplomatic interactions. Press TV’s Zeinab Zakaria emphasized that the situation extends beyond Iran, calling for China and Russia to demonstrate full support for Iran. During an emergency session of the United Nations Security Council on Monday, Russia’s representative to the UN issued a strong rebuke against the United States and Israel for their actions towards Iran, describing them as a flagrant violation of international standards and a challenge to the international community.
Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzya, has issued a strong condemnation of what he described as the irresponsible and provocative actions by the United States towards Iran. He further stated that the operations executed by the United States and Israel represent a thorough humiliation for the international community.
A diplomat has voiced strong criticism against particular members of the UN Security Council, condemning their silence and perceived inaction. The diplomat accused these members of lacking the resolve to condemn what was described as Washington’s aggressive actions.
