A political analyst says people in Bahrain can no more accept a hereditary and despotic monarchy in the Persian Gulf state as they are now more educated than before, Press TV reports.

Jalal Fairooz, a former Bahraini MP, in an interview told press TV that although the first article of Bahraini constitution stipulates the country is a democratic one, only a single prime minister has been in power over the past four decades.

“That is no more acceptable today, as people are very much educated and very much wise…,” Fairooz added.
The analyst added that the ruling Al Khalifa regime has put utmost pressure on Bahraini people and political activists to persuade them to retreat from their political demands, but in vain.

Bahrain has been the scene of almost daily protests against the Al Khalifa dynasty since early 2011 when a pro-democracy uprising began in the kingdom.

Since mid-February 2011, thousands of pro-democracy protesters have held numerous rallies in the streets of Bahrain, calling for the Al Khalifa royal family to relinquish power.

Bahrain has been severely criticized by human rights groups for its harsh crackdown on anti-government protesters, which has claimed the lives of scores of people so far.

On March 14, 2011, troops from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates were deployed to Bahrain to assist the Manama regime in its crackdown on peaceful protesters.
