France mulls reinforcing Syria insurgents

France says it is considering whether to reinforce Takfiri terrorists in Syria with arms after the Syrian army managed to recapture the strategic western city of al-Qusayr.

French Foreign Ministry Spokesman Philippe Laillot said on Tuesday that, “There are consequences to be drawn from what happened in Qusayr and what’s happening in Aleppo. The first consequence is to strengthen the ties with the coalition, and the question we’re asked is whether to go one step further and deliver weapons.”
Paris made the announcement after Syrian forces regained full control of Qusayr on June 5 following three weeks of heavy fighting with foreign-sponsored militants, inflicting major losses on them.
The Syrian troops have also gained a series of military successes in their battle against the armed groups in the country’s largest city of Aleppo over the past days.
Laillot further described Syria’s victory in recapturing Qusayr as a “dramatic development” and a “turning point” in the foreign-backed crisis gripping the Arab state, saying, “We cannot leave the opposition in the situation in which it finds itself.”
France is among the Western states that support over two years of militancy in Syria, which has claimed the lives of many people, including large numbers of Syrian soldiers.
