All public schools in Nashua, New Hampshire will be closed on Monday due to fresh threats of violence in the aftermath of the recent mass shooting in California.

On December 2, two alleged Daesh (ISIL) followers stormed an office holiday party in San Bernardino, California, and shot to death 14 people.

Officials warned on Sunday that they had received a “detailed threat of violence” directed at the city’s two high schools.

According to the Nashua police, the threat was sent to a school administrator via email. No details were released about the email’s content.

“It is definitely a tight rope,” Nashua police Lieutenant Kerry Baxter said in a press briefing. “It is a tough decision to make. These seem to going on throughout the country. They seem to be happening more frequently, and they are disruptive on many different levels.”

It was not clear how credible the threat was, but school district Superintendent Mark Conrad asked all students to stay home out of an abundance of caution, because the threat was specific and concerned more than one school.

There are 12 elementary schools, three middle schools and two high schools in the Nashua School District.

“We have received a detailed threat of violence to harm students and staff at both high schools,” Conrad stated. “Because the threat is specific and extends to several schools, we will be cautious and close all of our public schools in Nashua tomorrow, Monday, December 21st.”

A similar threat, directed against students at “many schools,” prompted officials in Los Angeles to order all public schools to close last week.

On November 30, the University of Chicago also canceled classes and activities on its campus following a warning by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
