Damascus: Syrian Army Starts 2nd Phase of Operations to Liberate Al-Qaboun

 

The Syrian army continued military operations in Eastern Damascus and seized back control of strategic regions in al-Qaboun district to start the final phase of attacks against the terrorists in the region.

The army forces recaptured control of several blocks and advanced 500m after clashes with the terrorists South of the power plant in al-Qaboun district.

A military source said that the Syrian army has regained control of the power plant, and added that the region is highly important since it hosts one of the most important tunnels to transfer the terrorists’ ammunition and equipment.

Jeish al-Islam terrorist group’s commander had entered al-Qaboun district through the same tunnel several weeks ago.

According to another military source, the Syrian army is preparing for their final assault on the al-Qaboun district after the recent victories.

The source added that the Syrian army troops expect full collapse of the militants this week.

Earlier reports today said that the army has deployed is forces around the most important stronghold of the al-Nusra Front (also known as Fatah al-Sham Front or the Levant Liberation Board) in al-Qaboun district.

The army forces advanced in the Southern parts of al-Qaboun district after heavy clashes with al-Nusra terrorists in Eastern Damascus and stationed the Southern parts of Abdul Qani Bajeqni school as one of the biggest and most important al-Nusra bases in the district.

In the meantime, the army’s artillery, missile and air force units targeted the al-Nusra’s positions in al-Qaboun.

A military source underlined the army’s fierce attacks against the terrorists in the district, and said the al-Nusra militants’ lines have shattered “and the clashes in this front which is considered as the gate of Eastern Ghouta will end soon”.
