Syrian Army discovers, destroys rebel tunnels in northeast Damascus-Video
A network of tunnels connecting the rebel-held neighborhood of al-Qaboun in northeast Damascus to the eastern Ghouta region has been discovered and eventually destroyed by the Syrian Army.
The tunnels – two of them used for transporting militants with the third was wide enough to fit in vehicles – have been extensively used to supply the militants in al-Qaboun with fighters, ammunition, supplies and weapons.
Meanwhile, the government forces made a major advance in the eastern part of the insurgent-controlled neighborhood, and recaptured a number of buildings. Scores of militants were reported killed in the process.
According to a military source, the Syrian Army, backed by heavy artillery shelling, also managed to destroy one BMP and two machinegun-mounted vehicles.
The Syrian Army launched a full-scale military operation to retake al-Qaboun and Barzeh neighborhood after efforts to concluded reconciliation agreements had failed.
